Abstract

Objectives. This paper aims at arguing in favor of a heteroglossic conceptualization of migration. (Introduction). Based on the results of a discourse study with Peruvian migrants in Lima, Peru, an analysis methodology was designed. This is interested in both the subjection of migrants and their individual and collective subjectivity by means of/because of migration in a globalized world.

Materials and method. The methodology was carried out by establishing a dialog with migrants, that is, by approaching the legitimation

of their voices as participants in the social construction of migration as a social phenomenon. Considering a critical discourse analysis, various and hybrid symbolic resources were developed. These resources are used by migrants when constructing the social reality in which they are involved.

Results. When opening oneself to the cultural difference of migrants, following the proposed methodology, one can understand the social reality built by migrants within migration and by the migration phenomenon. Finding the diversity of its voices shows the opportunities contained within their otherness. Their voices allow us not only to conceptually approach the social phenomenon of migration, but also give us the idea of the possibilities of individual and collective social behavior in a globalized postmodern world.

Conclusion. The voices of migrants, as proposed by our discourse analysis, can raise awareness of the conditions of survival in the modern world and sensitize to the discourse analysis of the social reality at large.
