Abstract
This paper summarizes the main results in terms of CITIZENSHIP and PARTICIPATION shown by the research project, “Social Capital: A Comprehensive Approach to the Dynamics of Young People in Manizales.” In this study, four broad categories were specified and evaluated: Associations, Trust, Values and Citizenship. Regarding the Citizenship category (in which I participated as a research associate) the goal was to observe and analyze in detail the perceptions and implementation of the citizenship concept in the youth in Manizales. It was not only to learn their traditional urban and alternative practices, but also to estimate the real potential within the current social context. The variables involved were: family and social relations, citizenship practice, civil rights, trust in institutions and authorities, political interests, social and neighborhood problems, juvenile participation and projects or programs of interest. Finally, data and tables, relevant conclusions and recommendations are stated.
