Factors of Success or Failure in Rural Agro-Industrial Development
Agro-Industrial Case Study Projects in the MiddleEastern Region of Caldas

Objective: to identify the factors which directly influence the outcome of rural agro-industrial development projects.
Methodology: a qualitative descriptive study was applied. Primary information was obtained through interviews with actors, and secondary information was collected through documentary sources such as management reports, agricultural evaluations, repositories, and specialized magazines. The research was carried out in four phases: in the first phase, the documentary systematization of government plans and policies for agro-industrial development in the department of Caldas was made; in the second, the project "Training small farmers about the production of organic fruits and juices in the Middle Eastern region of Caldas" was described; in the third, the results of this project were presented; in the fourth, the analysis and triangulation of data was carried out using a matrix of interrelated factors, a paper calculator, and a Cartesian plan.
Results: it was found that the influencing factors are mainly the institutional organization, the role of the government, the training, the peasant organization, and the administration and management of agro-industrial projects. In addition, the success of agro-industrial projects depends on the interrelation of the factors that, since the formulation, are not taken into account.
Conclusions: institutional organization is one of the influencing factors. Rural agro-industrial development projects require the strengthening of peasant organization.
